Hi. I got myself a new phone recently and am now in the process of figuring out how to get it to work as I want it to. I've just downloaded the LiveJournal.app and so far it seems pretty easy to use.

One of the issues I have though is with photography. I still haven't found an application that can upload my pictures to flickr in a sensible fashion. Some shrink the photos to a lousy 320x200 resolution. Others strip all EXIF data.
Is it really imposible to ceate an app that just uploads a batch of photos from the roll to flickr with no modifications?

Apart from that, it'll take some time to get used to the text typing interface. Especially with regards to the auto-correction feature. Instead of having to opt in when the phone gives a suggestion, i have to dismiss the suggestion. Which sometimes is a bit of a hassle, and interrupts my writing flow.

Now. I know that I'm not the only one with an iPhone, so I would like to hear from the rest of you. What's your experiences with the iPhone and what apps can you recommend.

Hugs
Søren

You are The Hierophant

Divine Wisdom. Manifestation. Explanation. Teaching.

All things relating to education, patience, help from superiors. The Hierophant is often considered to be a Guardian Angel.

The Hierophant's purpose is to bring the spiritual down to Earth. Where the High Priestess between her two pillars deals with realms beyond this Earth, the Hierophant (or High Priest) deals with worldly problems. He is well suited to do this because he strives to create harmony and peace in the midst of a crisis. The Hierophant's only problem is that he can be stubborn and hidebound. At his best, he is wise and soothing, at his worst, he is an unbending traditionalist.

Just saw today's edition of "Cyanide and Happiness", giving a new fresh view on why this election is so important (in an odd heterosexual kind of way)....

You be the judge here...

Given I'm a political geek - I honestly read "OH" as Ohio at first.....

Been wanting to donate to No on Prop 8 for some time now - and saw in [livejournal.com profile] furr_a_bruin 's journal entry ( furr-a-bruin.livejournal.com/560663.html ) that the HRC is having a "double down"

So I went to the website, and was pleased to see that they included a "Country " selection, suggesting that non-US residents could make a donation as well...  Some of the previous donation forms would only take contributions from US residents...

So i fill out the form: Select $100 bucks (which counts for $200!), fill in name, address, credit card details and such... Then hits Submit..

1st error: The street information is wrong. In Denmark, we type the road name before the house number, so my address is "Nedergade 50, 2nd floor"...

Well ... I changed that to "50 Nedergade, 2nd floor", then hit the Submit again...

New error: Wrong ZIP code for the credit card....  Well duh.... We have postal codes in Denmark, but apparently the website is trying to match my postal code "5000" to some US address...

I try to change it to "DK-5000"  - but get the same error...

Then again .... If this contribution form was open for non US residents, why is ZIP Code a required field...

Why does it have to be so hard to contribute.... ?

I just saw this on the Prop 8 issue

Google says 'No' on Prop 8
While we respect the strongly-held beliefs that people have on both sides of this argument, we see this fundamentally as an issue of equality. We hope that California voters will vote no on Proposition 8 -- we should not eliminate anyone's fundamental rights, whatever their sexuality, to marry the person they love.

Instead of seeing what is on my computer desktop (which is not particularly interesting), here is instead the view from my desk at work...

To the left is the very handsome [livejournal.com profile] fogbear , joining in on the Photo of the Now Meme -- Work on the right (COBOL code for the ones that need to know ;-)

In front, my beloved Starbucks Vancouver Mug, which holds the essential 3 times Espresso that I start with each morning...
(Many of my co-workers note that I may have the largest mug in the company... Thanks Starbucks! ;-D)

The flags in the background ... Well - they are there for a reason... Can you guess it ? *LOL*

The skies are grey outside - has been so for the last few days. Only consolation is the weatherman's promise of a dry and sunny weekend...
On Monday, the foul weather returns -- just in time for me to return to work... ;-//

Regarding Flickr
I've removed a lot of uninteresting pictures on Flickr - I had a lot of  "Oh look! - It's a mountain" pictures from my bus trip back to Vancouver earlier this month, these have now been removed, and I'm putting a bit more effort in moderating what goes up there...
Also - I've noticed that some of my co-workers have discovered my account, so I've decided to restrict pictures of a sexual nature to "friends-only" -- E.g. the latest photo session of me in nothing short of a harness (sort of) is now for friends only

...just saying ;-D

If I know you on LiveJournal and you aren't on my Flickr friends list, please let me know your Flickr user name -- or PM me an email address to send an invite ;-D

And for all Firefox 3.0+ users
Check out Mozilla Ubiquity (link fixed) and make sure to see the intro video... It's still in the works - but really cool none the less ...

...don't know, when I'll be back again...

I'm sitting in the international departure hall of Vancouver Airport... Leaving Canada and Vancouver behind is hard - especially since i don't know when I'll be back again....

The people I've met in the past 10 days have been nothing short of spectacular... One guy in particular, Barry aka.[profile] fatherbear here on LJ, was instrumental in making this the best trip I've had in a very long time...
I'm blessed to have gotten to know him....

I'm gonna be back though... That's for sure ....  but right now, it's an emotional departure for me....

Hi...

Just noticed that others are doing this "Green shirt ...day" and wanted to participate...

This is taken in my hotel room at the Mozilla 2008 Summit in Whistler, B.C., Canada, whilst waiting for my pictures to be uploaded to Flickr... (Go see - there's a link on the side -- but be warned - the pictures from the last 3-4 days are of a nerdy, convention'ish nature....)

Well... there's no point in denying it ...

Today it is 10 years since Ulrik and I met...

What was to become a happy and content day came off to an confused start though...

I had taken a day off from work to clean up a bit around the flat - without him knowing -- wouldn't want to spoil the surprise...

He, on the other hand, had arranged for a florist to drop by my office with a bouquet of flowers -- as a surprise...

Fortunately, I had one of my co-workers taking it home for me...

There was a card attached....
"Thanks for the patience... U."

This is a Public Cub Service Announcement

Hi gang...

In two weeks I'll be making my first trip outside Europe. I'm heading off to Whistler, BC, Canada to participate in the Mozilla 2008 Firefox Summit.
Although most of the trip will be focused on the summit, which is taking place on monday July 28th to friday August 1st, I will also be spending some time in Vancouver the weekends before and after...

More specifically, I'll be arriving in Vancouver on saturday July 26th @ 6:35 pm. (local time), heading up to Whistler monday morning, will partake in the summit, heading back to Vancouver friday (about 3 pm.) , and staying there until my plane leaves monday afternoon (@ 5:45 pm.)...

Now - I'm not familiar with anybody from Vancouver on my friends list - but chances are that some of you know a friendly bear or two in Vancouver, that might be interested in showing this cub the sights, sounds - great places to eat - or just being good company ;-D

So - If you know someone that maybe interested, please feel free to refer them to my blog...

Thanks in advance

Here's a "little" story from work... (actually, It's a bit long, but do read on ;-) ....

I was employed nine months ago - basically to be a code monkey (albeit in COBOL) ... The place I work for is a data center for 15 banks and other financial institutions...

So - without much knowledge in either COBOL, mainframes or financial terms and processes, I (along with 11 other hopefuls) was sent through their "IT College" - a seven week COBOL / MVS / DB2 boot camp, and thereafter we were scattered throughout the company...

I landed as a maintainer (i.e. bug fixer) in the subsystem for registration of financial securities - stocks, bonds, options, what have you not...
Exciting area - but I had to learn it all from the ground up... I've never dabbled with trading stocks or anything like that... All i was familiar with -bank wise - was that I had a bank account, and that there more often than not would be less money in the end of a month for the budget to balance...

Now - in this maintainer post I was under the wings of a guy named Claus, the guy responsible for/managing the subsystem... He had been in the company for almost 10 years, but had only just recently (about 6 months prior to my hiring) been appointed manager for this subsystem.

But one of the things I experienced early on was that we had very different approaches to solving various issues... I would be very detail oriented, while he was more carefree in whether the issues were fixed 'below the surface'...
Some of his 'solutions' have come back to haunt us on later occasions ...

I - on the other hand - quickly became known though out the department for being one who wouldn't settle for half-baked solutions, and I also made good connections with our consultants (business advisers), who later expressed their view that I had gained more knowledge about the workings of the system (from a business perspective) than he had had - even though he'd been in the company longer....This gave me the aspiration to some day become manager of subsystem - but as long as he was interested in keeping his assignment, our department head would not reassign him (although she acknowledged that I'd be more suited for the job)

Now... There's a project that runs every year. It's business critical - has to be run - period. It concerns the statements that are sent to all customers, IRS, state etc. about peoples financial standing... It has a planning period of about 6 months - is run on January 1st - and usually use 2 additional months thereafter to verify that everything has been stated correctly to every recipient..
Claus was project lead some years back (with duties he performed to great acclaim) ... But he was now head-honcho for this subsystem, and was therefore not able to sign up (nor had he any interest in doing so again) when the assigned person decided to leave the company this spring.
Instead we hired another guy who fortunately expressed high dedication to getting this project done.. He was employed specifically for this project on June 1st.

This tuesday - however - he reported that he had found employment somewhere else - and suddenly we were without project lead for a project that usually starts in july/august and runs until february...

Today we were informed that a replacement had been found ... Claus had accepted to resume his project leader task - which suddenly meant that there was an opening as Subsystem Manager...

I was asked - and I accepted the position...

So now - 9 months after employment - and just 7 months after being introduced to the world of financial securities, data vendors, stock exchanges and what not, I've been appointed chief of the subsystem that handles registration and maintenance of financial securities - a highly business critical system...

I can't help but feel a bit proud of my self -- but also a bit awestruck that the whole system now is my responsibility... I know that I don't know every facet about this system yet, but still I hope that I'll turn out to be a good manager...
