What Be Your Nerd Type?
Your Result: Social Nerd

You're interested in things such as politics, psychology, child care, and peace. I wouldn't go so far as to call you a hippie, but some of you may be tree-huggers. You're the type of people who are interested in bettering the world. You're possible the least nerdy of them all; unless you participate in other activies that paled your nerdiness compared to your involvement in social activities. Whatever the case, we could still use more of you around. ^_^

My my my... a lot of things have happened since my last posting and I'm happy to say that "it's all good!" ;-D

First and foremost - I now hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science (yay!) and following that I had a job interview on Wednesday. Today I got a letter saying that they'd like to hire me as of October 1st (double yay!) - Employment contract signed, sealed and in the mail ;-D

Meanwhile, after completing the bachelor, I've also had 10 days of holiday in Berlin, Germany with the hubby. Berlin is an amazing city - very vibrant and yet also very down-to-Earth.
Partially by coincidence, it was the same weekend as the Spreebären (one of the local bear clubs) held their Bearopolis 2007 weekend -- and also the weekend where Folsom Europe 2007 took place in Berlin ... A very exciting weekend...

And of course, I, alongside 20 other bears and admirers, participated in our national Pride Parade on August 25th, where I (of course) sported the overalls I got hold of with help from wonderful fellow LJ bear [personal profile] furrbear. (I even appeared in a photo series about the Pride in Politiken, one of the major Danish newspapers - or at least my backside did :-D )

Here's a little update
  • I've finished the last Harry Potter... It's really good - and a well done conclusion of the HP saga...
  • I got my overalls for Copenhagen Pride (August 25th) thanks to [livejournal.com profile] furrbear ;-D. I had some pictures done, which can be seen behind the cut )
  • I've started the last course i need to complete my bachelor in Computer Science - It's a summer course called Robots and Dynamic Agents Interface Design - 3 weeks of building robots and learning about aspects about Human-Machine interaction. My team's first task was to build a robot to push bricks off a surface (to get acquainted with the Lego Mindstorms hardware) - You can see a picture of our robot here )

Oh - and by the way - my cold seem to have gone - no coughing for days now

This post is (as always) really overdue...

Just wanted to let you know that two weeks ago, I was informed that I passed my exam in Linear Algebra - the last obligatory course on the road to my B.Sc. in Computer Science...

Only one course remains to be completed before the degree is in the bag - a course in building autonomous robots from Lego bricks - which will be held from August 6th to 25th.

Word has it that you can only fail this course by failing to attend (yay!)

So now I'm finally ready to start job hunting ;-D ...

As a sort of celebration, Ulli and I plan to attend in this year's Bearopolis in Berlin, Germany.

Funny that I should mention in my first posting the fear i had about not having enough time/energy to make postings to this blog --

Lo and behold - I haven't contributed in two whole months...

I think we're all due for an update... so here goes...

1) My Studies

My study grants was suspended in February - but some fellow students pointed me to the possibility for a loan (so called End-Term loan) which apparently can be granted for all people who are less than 12 months away from attaining their degree - so I've applied and was accepted for this loan for 6 months
The up side: I get to complete my bachelor
The down side: I get to pay that loan back, with interest.
Anyways I'm ok...

My Grid Scheduling project was accepted - and the exam in programming languages was also passed - so now I'm down to 22 ECTS - and I'm pretty sure to have all those earned by summer...

I have an exam in Algorithms and Complexity on Saturday, but I've  joined forces with a nice study group so I'm not that worried about this...

2) Lambda - the local GLBT association

At the AGM, I chose not to run for treasurer... but if I thought I'd be getting off easily, I was wrong!

I got elected on the board - but thereafter I was rooted to run for (and was elected) vice president ...
-- but at least I'm done pushing numbers (for now) - although in retrospect, it was kinda pleasurable...

3) The next Prog Rock-artiste??

One of my friends is a guitarist in a prog/pop band - and he's their main composer as well... He's not the best singer, though, as I've come to learn from some of his demos -- but some time ago he asked me if I could/would  help him with the vocal duties for some of his more prog-oriented compositions (his band is primarily pop-minded)
-- That's going to be an interesting challenge... I've been a church singer for 9 years - but one thing is to sing hymns and motets - another thing is to do a Derek Shulman... It won't come to anything before the coming summer (see #1) but I'm very excited about this as well ;-D

Oh ... and by the way : Gentle Giant rocks! ;-D

ta ta for now

Last Friday, I've entered a new stage in my life (*yikes*)

I took my last exam this time around: programming languages - and I've got a good feeling about how it went...

The Bachelor isn't completed yet - but as my grants ends by the end of February - I'll have to find other sources of income lest I'd be interested in social welfare and the obligations/incapacitation that that option would ensue.

So now is the time for writing those job applications en-masse...

Also, I've decided that I won't run for treasurer at the next Lambda AGM -- perhaps I'll remain as member of the board - but as is true with so many aspects of my life - I need a change of scenery...

Hugs to all readers!

*sigh*

Seems the enthusiasm, i felt comming on in my previous posting didn't last long ... I've spent the last two days in bed - only getting up for a meeting yesterday that i simply had to attend....

I'm starting to realize that i won't make my bachelor by the end of January - a failed exam in Linear Algebra took care of that ;-/ - which unfortunately coincides with the letter i got from the State Educational Grants Office two days ago, that my grants will be suspended by the end of February 2007...
Of course i could write to them and say "Hey, sure i blew almost a year worth of studying grants away - only passing few subjects - but i would still be interested in prolonging the grants for a period or two..."

The fact is that i'm fed up with studying -- i want to find some employment -- which, by the way, shouldn't be that hard (i've heard)...

So why don't i just abandon the studies and go for it ...
Simply put : if i complete my bachelor, i'll be eligable for a significantly better salary, than if i chose to seek employment now, where all i have is a System Construction diploma from 2001 to show for...

It's so annoying that this had to happen now - i'm only 29 ECTS points away from acquiring the degree ... under normal circumstances this should be attainable within one semester -- but with the failed exam i'll have to postpone that till next semester ....
